The Cow Share That Started It All
In what can now be recognized as Mike's first act of Butcher Energy, he did what anyone obsessed would do: bought a share of a cow. Yes, an actual cow. He started with a quarter-share, upgraded to a whole one to split with friends, and quickly realized that everyone wanted access to top-tier protein but no one had the slightest clue how to get it. Naturally, he found a local farmer who began delivering trash bags full of meat to his door. The quality was extraordinary. The experience was not.

ButcherBox exists to make the best meat in the world — humanely raised, responsibly sourced, no shortcuts

Who We Answer To

No investors. No fiduciary board. Just the people we feed. Most companies have investors breathing down their necks. We don't have any. We’re here for the farmers who raise our animals, the planet we source from, the people who work for us, throughout our supply chain, and the families we feed. That's it. That's the whole list.

Animals
They can't advocate for themselves, so we do it for them. Every animal in our supply chain is raised with their natural behaviors, comfort, and welfare in mind—because how an animal lives affects everything about how it tastes and what it means to eat it.
Farmers, Fishermen & Food System Workers
These are the people doing the hardest work in the food system. We partner with them, pay them fairly, show up when it matters, and invest in their futures—because a supply chain is only as good as the people running it.
The Planet
We take up space on this earth, and we want to leave it better than we found it. That means supporting sustainable practices, investing in soil health, minimizing our footprint, and holding our partners to the same standard.
Our People
Inside ButcherBox and across our supply chain, we believe in building workplaces where everyone is treated equitably and every background is celebrated.
Our Customers & Beyond
You trusted us with your family's table, and we don't take that lightly. Making the world's best meat accessible — not just to people who can afford it, but to as many families as possible — is why we show up every day.

Receipts Speak Louder Than Words

Talk is cheap. Here's what we've actually done.

B Corp Certified

Most “mission-driven brands” have good intentions but no proof. We went through one of the most rigorous third-party business certifications in existence, because accountability shouldn't be optional.

200+ Never-Ever Ingredients

No antibiotics ever. No added hormones, ever.
Nothing artificial (at all). One of the longest never-ever lists in the industry, and we keep adding to it.

Advocating for Better School Lunches

We took the antibiotic-free standard to D.C. because kids in school deserve better protein too. Not just our members' kids, but all kids.

Fighting for Bristol Bay

When a proposed mine threatened the watershed our salmon partners have fished for generations, we didn't stay quiet. We fought alongside them to protect it.

Investing in the Next Generation

From soil health research to programs supporting the next generation of sustainable farmers, we put money where our mission is.

Turkeys With Xylophones

Nobody asked us to raise turkeys with enrichment tools that promote natural curiosity. Mike did it anyway. By now you can probably tell, he did a lot of things anyway.
